Description:
Sigismund Thalberg, Swiss pianist and composer, studied piano with Moscheles in London at the age of 14 and gave his first public concert in May of the same year. He was later taught by Hummel and Czerny, and in 1835 went to Paris, where he won acclaim as a pianist. As a composer, he left behind transcriptions of operas and piano concertos that showcase his brilliant pianism, surpassing that of Franz Liszt. This "Posillippo's Evening Party" is a reprint from a six-disc box set released in May 2021 (the original disc is MARCO POLO), and consists of 24 pieces in total, a mixture of pieces from Tarberg's life in Posillippo (Posillipo) where he spent his last years, and pieces based on Rossini arias, as the title suggests. The title of this collection is a mix of pieces from Rossini's arias. His publisher suggested titling each piece like Mendelssohn's "Mummets," but he refused. Basically, only the velocity signs are given. None of the pieces show off the flamboyant virtuosity of Thalberg's younger works, but they are full of sweet and beautiful melodies, simple yet elegant. Performed by Francesco Nicolosi, born in Italy in 1954.He is a superb musician, and as president of the Thalberg International Research Center, he is committed to the study and dissemination of his works.
