Description:
Louis Spohr (1784-1859) was a German composer, violinist, and conductor. He was widely known as a performer, but he also left many works as a composer, including ten symphonies (the last of which is still unfinished), and was highly acclaimed at the time. Although Spohr seems to have written symphonies following Mozart, his completed works already had a Romantic style, which was avant-garde at that time. Although Spohr's first symphony is still in the classical style, his fifth symphony has matured and is full of free and free ideas that are comparable to the works of Schumann and Mendelssohn. Recorded in 1990 by the Slovak National Kosice Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Alfred Walther. (C)RS
