Description:
Georg Tintner (1917-1999) is a true genius conductor discovered by NAXOS. He began playing piano at the age of six, and after playing in the Vienna Boys' Choir, he studied piano and composition at the Vienna State Academy of Music. However, because of his Jewish background, he fled the country. The years of searching for a place to work continued. From New Zealand, he moved to Australia, South Africa, England, and back to Australia, where he finally found the love of his life. After that, he settled down in Canada and continued to play his favorite Bruckner while teaching younger musicians. It was in 1994, at the age of 74, that he met Klaus Hyman, the president of NAXOS. Although Tintner was already ill, Heimann saw the extraordinary talent in Tintner's playing and decided to entrust NAXOS with the recording of the complete Bruckner (1824-1896) cycle. The recording of the complete works began in 1995 and was completed in September 1998. The performances quickly became popular and brought fame to the NAXOS label, and he was scheduled to visit Japan in 2000, but on October 2, 1999, he took his own life.This box also includes his "Thoughts on Bruckner," which he said before he began recording.
