Following his complete Sibelius symphony recordings with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra for EMI in the 1970s, and his digital complete set with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, also for EMI, in the 1980s, Bergland recorded his third complete symphony cycle with the European Chamber Orchestra for the FINLANDIA label between 1995 and 1997. This is that very recording. This performance, condensed to its absolute limit including interpretation, possesses the persuasive power only a master conductor can achieve. Alongside his highly acclaimed second recording, it stands as one of Bergland's definitive masterpieces. Notably, the 2012 CD reissue of this recording by Tower Records continues to break sales records as the best-selling original album of all time. Now, it is finally released as an SACD. For this release, the popular complete set has been newly mastered for SACD from the original digital masters in the home country. SACD layer and CD layer mastered separately.
