Description:

The long-awaited world premiere SACD release of Muti's only "Rome Trilogy," one of the most famous recordings from the stereo recording era onward! The Philadelphia Orchestra's virtuosity and Muti's dashing and dynamic style shine through on this definitive recording! This is the third SACD release of the digital recording! The 23rd Record Academy Award winning disc in 1985 with new commentary. The world's first SACD release of Toscanini's absolute masterpiece with the Philadelphia Orchestra, which can be said to be the best performance after the stereo era! This is an overwhelming performance that can be said to reign supreme in the history of the Philadelphia Orchestra's performance of these pieces, which have been passed down from generation to generation. In addition to the profound tone, stable brass, and fullness of each soloist, Muti's driving conducting makes this recording shine even brighter on SACD. The SACD version was mastered separately from the SACD and CD layers, and includes a new commentary. New commentary is included. The Philadelphia Orchestra has a deep connection with Respighi's works; when he was a guest in 1926, the Philadelphia Orchestra performed "Pines of Rome," and the program at that time included a text by Respighi himself (quoted by Kazumasa Kiba in the commentary). In 1941, during the SP era, Toscanini, the premiere performer, recorded "Roman Festivals," which was before he later recorded the trilogy with the NBC Symphony Orchestra, but this is the only session recording of "Festivals" other than this recording. After the stereo recording period, Ormandy recorded the trilogy for CBS. The gorgeous sound and the high degree of perfection of the performances had a tremendous impact in the history of recordings as the "Rome Trilogy" of the Philadelphia Orchestra. The recording of the same music by Muti, who became music director in 1980, was undoubtedly one of the most anticipated recordings during his tenure, and it is evident that he prepared it even more carefully. The performance, which seems to have been further refined and condensed by Muti while following the Ormandy era, brings out a gem of sound from the Philadelphia Orchestra, which, although some generations have been replaced, still had many master musicians in its ranks, and is a model of a modern orchestra that has reached the most advanced playing technique in the world. The Philadelphia Philadelphia Orchestra was highly acclaimed as one of the best orchestras of the digital recording era. However, the sound quality is limited compared to today's state-of-the-art recordings due to EMI's digital recording technology in its infancy, but in order to revive this masterpiece in the modern era, we used a flat master from the original country and mastered it in the latest version. Although the original recording condition greatly affects the quality of the recording, we have tried to bring out the full potential of the original recording to see how much we can express the magnificence of the orchestration in the latest version.
