Description:
A project commemorating the 100th anniversary of Prêtre's birth. A masterful performance in the prime of Prêtre's life, bringing out a wide variety of expressions from the orchestra of Paris, which had just been founded! The work of Milhaud is also included in the margins of the performance. World's first SACD release! Newly reissued from the original analog master tapes. The New World", recorded in 1970 with the Orchestre de Paris, is a well-known masterpiece, and "The Creation of the World", recorded in 1961 when he conducted the Orchestre de la Conservatoire de Paris, his predecessor, is coupled. The "New World" is a brilliant performance that shines with its honest and clear expression, but also with its unique tempo and approach to phrasing. On the other hand, Milhaud's performance of "The New World" is one of the most representative recordings of this piece, as it brings out the essence of the piece with a French sensibility. This reissue is a must-hear, with its refined sound quality! The master was digitized at 192kHz/24bit from the original analog master tapes in the original country for this release, and mastered separately for the SACD and CD layers. New commentary included. This is a permanent preservation disc. Praetor visited Japan with the Orchestre de Paris on the occasion of the 1970 Osaka World's Fair, and performed this "New World" on 4/16, which was recorded just before the event. The orchestra made its first visit to Japan in May 1964 as a member of the Paris Conservatory Orchestra with Cluytens, and this was the first visit to Japan with the Paris Orchestra. The conductors who accompanied them were Prêtre and Bodo (Prêtre visited Japan a total of seven times, and this was his second visit to Japan. His first visit to Japan was to the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra in 1967.) At the time, Praetor was in his mid-40s and active worldwide not only as an opera conductor but also as a concert conductor, making recordings for EMI and RCA. At the time of this recording of "New World," Praetor was in the midst of his active career, and the music is characterized by ambitious experimentation and a sense of dynamism. The Orchestre de Paris was under the direction of Karajan as musical advisor (1969-71), and perhaps because he had been aiming for a strong ensemble from the beginning, the orchestra showed a high level of ensemble ability that responded well to Prêtre's instructions. Dvořák by a French orchestra is rare, but EMI also has a 1959 recording of "The New World" by Silvestri and the Orchestre National de Radio France (available on TDSA183). This Praetorian performance is certainly no less impressive than Silvestri's.Also included in this coupling is a recording of Milhaud's "The Creation of the World" made by Prêtre in 1961. This recording with the Paris Conservatory Kan is highly acclaimed along with Poulenc's works from the same period. This reissue uses a new high-resolution recording from the analog master tapes in the original country, so you can feel the color and tone of the French orchestras that existed at this time in both pieces even more than on the previous recordings.
