The world's greatest cellist, Jean-Guyan Queras, is a master of the art of cello. His brilliant technique and intellectual inspiration, combined with a musicality that has deepened in recent years, have made him an unstoppable force to be reckoned with. This new release features two cello concertos from the mid-18th century and at the dawn of the 19th century. Both require superb technique and must be played lightly, but Kellas plays them with ease and a free spirit that sings freely. The orchestration is by the Ensemble Resonanz.This is also an ensemble that captivates the listener with its incisive interpretations of great works of the past and contemporary music, a perfect match for Kellas, who recorded a disc of C.P.E. Bach's Cielo Concerto (in A minor) in 2017 (HMM 902331/KKC 5913). Minaj, who conducts, has been an artist-in-residence at the Ensemble Resonanz since 2018, a relationship that has been extended to the present. For Minaj, C.P.E. Bach in particular is a composer he has frequently discussed. With thorough research and a clear musical vision, Minaj's performances are "alive," evoking even the heat and bustle of the time.Kraft was born in a small town in Bohemia, studied at the University of Prague, and received a Less from Werner, a well-known cello teacher. He moved to Vienna, where he captivated people with his virtuosity on the cello. He was the principal cellist of the orchestra of Nicholas I. Joseph Esterházy and performed various works under the direction of J. Haydn, while also studying composition under him. It is said that the cello parts of Haydn's Cello Concerto in D major and Beethoven's Triple Concerto op.56 were written for Kraft, which shows what an excellent player he was.C.P.E. Bach's cello concerto was written during his most productive period in Berlin. It is thought to have been written with a certain great master of the time in mind, and is elegantly eloquent, refraining from any obvious contrasts. The work allows us to enjoy the beauty of C.P.E.
