Matthias Goerne opens the door to a new German Lieder. A Winter's Journey, with a video of contemporary artist Kentridge's drawing animation--live footage from the 2015 Aix-en-Provence Festival. Matthias Goerne, one of the best contemporary German Lied singers, collaborates with William Kentridge, a contemporary artist from Johannesburg, South Africa, to turn a new page in the recording of Schubert's "Winter Journey". William Kentridge is known for his drawings and animations that incorporate South African history and society, and is a 2010 recipient of the Kyoto Prize, awarded to those who have made significant contributions in science, technology, and culture, and has recently attracted attention for his opera productions. The piano will be played by the renowned pianist Markus Hinterhäuser, who is scheduled to be the Intendant of the Salzburg Festival from 2017. Gernet's unique interpretation and Kentridge's animation combine to give a full appreciation of "Winterreise," both visually and aurally. Imported edition with Japanese obi and commentary.
