The new release from ALTER CAT, a German label that reissues Vertel, Maria di Fathima, and others, is a truly eclectic picture scroll that combines Indian and Arab music left by the great Arab composer Bali Hamdi, who was also sampled by JAY-Z! Bali Hamdi is known as one of the leading composers of the Arab world in the 20th century, having provided songs for famous singers such as Umm Kulsoom and Abdel Halim Hafez. The recently released compilation "INSTRUMENTAL MODAL POP OF 1970'S EGYPT" by Sublime Frequencies has widely presented his unique music, which blends tradition and innovation in a strange way, to the world. This album is considered one of the masterpieces among Hamdi's works. The Indian sitar player Majid Khan, who is an integral part of Hamdi's works, collaborates with an orchestra of Egyptian musicians who supported Abdel Halim Hafez to establish a unique style that differs from both Indian and Arabic music. What is most surprising is the musical quality.The way in which instruments from different cultures, such as sitar and al ghul, tabla and ney, with their strong sound personalities, not only coexist without discomfort, but also move with a lively energy, is truly a sight to behold.
