This is a collection of unknown piano works by the Lithuanian futurist-mystic composer Bacevicius (1905-1970). Yusuke Ishii spins complex acoustic compositions with penetrating technique and expression in this beautiful white album. (Recorded at MAMA Studio, Lithuania, pressed by GREEN LAKES PRESSING, 180g vinyl LP record, color vinyl) Bacevicius is the brother of the female composer Bacevici, whom Christian Zimmermann has also recorded for Deutsche Grammophon. Yusuke Ishii, a Lithuanian pianist who specializes most in contemporary works, has polished his previously undiscovered works and brought them to a new level of brilliance. The collection includes piano works by Bacevičius composed between 1926 and 1963. All of them consistently present a space that seems to submerge into deep melancholy and aesthetics, and together with the recording and acoustic textures, we are led into a mysterious otherworldly space. Floating and wandering between atonal and tonal senses, it evokes the process of "chaos" toward harmony. Or, it reminds us of a jet-black universe filled with the light of stars. The music is deeply imbued with the mood of the uncertain times around the Soviet Union during and after World War II. Also worth a listen is the mechanical and complex musical mechanism that is not driven by emotion, and the beautiful pianism of Yusuke Ishii, who embodies it in a very natural way, both technically and musically.
