A collection of orchestral works by Latvian composer of the late 20th century, Agulis Engelmanis! Agulis Engermanis (1936-2011) was one of the most modernist-oriented Latvian composers of the late 20th century. He studied composition with Adolphus Skulte at the Latvian Academy of Music and chose to base his activities in his native Liepāja, between the sea and a lake, rather than in the capital Riga, which was also the center of Latvian culture. He composed mainly orchestral and choral works, but also left chamber music and organ works." The three "Diaphonies," named after the opposite of "Symphony" (dissonance), are three-movement works for piano and orchestra. No. 1 is the official premiere of this recording. Nos. 2 and 3 have been performed in the past and are presented here for the first time in a recording. Musica Alba," which means "white music" in Latin, is one of his more frequently performed works.The last piece recorded, "Music for Symphony Orchestra," is said to be the first orchestral piece Engelmanis composed in the year of his graduation from the Academy, and was performed by conductor Atvarus Rakstigala (b.1981) as an as yet unknown "new work" at the Great Amber Concert Hall's inaugural The concert was held at the inauguration of the Great Amber Concert Hall.
