On the eve of November 18, 2018, the 100th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Latvia, the "Mother Latvia" concert was held in Liepāja, a city on the Baltic Sea coast. The concert featured works by five Latvian women composers, who were invited to sound the "new sound of our homeland" into the future, a fitting gift of love for "Mother Latvia". Santa Latonice (1977-) depicted the process of microscopic ice crystals forming a circle of light in her orchestral work, "The Light Circle. Waves of Cape Kolka" by Ukrainian-born Marina Grivinchka (1966-) depicts one of Latvia's most beautiful natural features, a promontory known for the spectacle created by the collision of waves coming from Riga and the Baltic Sea. Maija Einfelde's (1939-) "And the Three-Colored Sun Illuminates Everything" takes its name from a poem in Latvian poet Aspasija's collection "The Three-Colored Sun." Gündega Šimite (1977-)'s "It is the wind, full of pollen from Latvia's colorful meadows..." in "The Splendor of the Wind".Serga Menze (1953-) has created a descriptive "play of waves" by weaving together nostalgic song melodies with his first musical impressions as a child. Latonice's Liepāja Concerto No. 7 for Piano and Orchestra, the first piece on the album, is the only work by a female composer in the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra's "Liepāja Concerto Twinkle.
