A rare live performance by Ashkenazy at the age of 26 in the Soviet Union. Ashkenazy, who was about to turn 26 years old, was thought to have achieved great success as a pianist in the Soviet Union, winning the second prize at the Chopin Competition in 1955 and sharing the first prize with Ogdon at the Tchaikovsky Competition in 1962. However, in 1963, Ashkenazy surprised the world by suddenly defecting to England. This album contains his last recital in the Soviet Union before his departure. The tension that pervades the entire performance and the overwhelming performance are the main attractions of this album. In particular, the performance of Chopin, who was regarded as an expert in the West in later years, was full of egregious expressions, which were a far cry from the beautifully narrated "Chopin by Ashkenazy" that we have become accustomed to hearing.The piano sound is even and even from low to high notes, and the fine touch of the piano has been picked up. The sound is full of applause. Other performances of Chopin's Ballade No. 4, Debussy's Isle of Joy, and Debussy's Moonlight were previously released on other labels, but unfortunately they are no longer in the MELODIYA archives.
