Eiko Yamada is a recorder player and improviser born in Tokyo, Japan and living in Heidelberg, Germany. She also performs with dancers and poets. After returning to Japan once or twice a year, Yamada performed with pianist Fumi Endo at Ftarri on August 13, 2023, performing solo and duo pieces. This CD contains two pieces from that concert, Yamada's solo and a duo performance by Yamada and Endo, each around 25 minutes long. Yamada used the soprano recorder and bass recorder in his solo, and only the bass recorder in the duo. Yamada's performance, in which the recorder is played in an abstract and intense way, is truly a masterpiece. The tension-filled duo playing is also superb! (C)RS
