Description:
Romanian composer Livia Teodorescu-Șocenică. She studied piano at her local conservatory and, from 1998 to 1999, received a government scholarship to study in the UK. She later returned to Bucharest and has dedicated herself to Romanian music education as a professor at the National University of Music. Her music, which blends "ancient" and "modern" elements, fuses the modes found in her country's folk songs with contemporary sounds, creating a timeless palette. This album features vocal works with orchestral accompaniment. "Solitude," using Lamartine's poetry, depicts feelings of loneliness and loss. "The Annunciation" sets biblical scenes to music using contemporary techniques. "Field of Poppies," written to commemorate the victims of World War I, depicts the moment of the war's outbreak and memories of the battlefield (this recording features an excerpt performed in 2024).
