This new album by Peter Jablonski and the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Wukasz Borowicz is a collection of works by Andre (Anjay) Tchaikovsky. Tchaikovsky, who was born into a Jewish family and survived the Warsaw Ghetto, made a name for himself as a performer while composing throughout his life, leaving behind works with a strong personality. The world premiere recording of his Piano Concerto No. 1, a Prokofiev-like work influenced by the performances of Arthur Rubinstein, was a big hit at its premiere in Belgium. Piano Concerto No. 2 is a complex and technical masterpiece in the style of Berg and Bartók, inspired by a play by Ibsen. The Piano Sonata, which he dared not to name, is a work that seems to reflect the composer's inner life, with its contrasting restless, unstable movements and calm middle movement. This is an album that demonstrates the superb technique and expressive power of Jablonsky, who is very particular about his repertoire and his choice of music. Naxos Japan
