He wants to give his fortune to his nephew Ernesto, but Ernesto seems to be in love with someone else and refuses to marry the man he recommended. Don Pasquale decides that he would rather marry himself than have his fortune taken away by an unknown woman, so he asks his friend Malatesta to arrange a marriage. The girl, who at first glance seems quiet and obedient, changes her attitude as soon as the marriage contract is signed. ...... From the Donizetti Festival comes Donizetti's opera buffa masterpiece "Don Pasquale," one of the opening performances of the 2024 festival. The production is an exciting one, boldly incorporating contemporary customs, by Amelie Neillmeyer, a native of the German theater field whose new productions are always much talked about. Roberto de Candia, well-known in Japan for his repeated visits to the theater, gives an excellent performance as the title role, which, despite his brash behavior, is full of deft pathos.The heroine, Norina, was played by Giulia Mazzola, a rising star from Sicily. The role of Ernesto, a particularly difficult musical role, was played by Javier Camarena, whose beautiful voice was full of emotion and exquisite singing.
