This album features works by beloved American composers by Lisa Friend, a flutist active in the UK. It has been a longtime dream of mine to record works by my favorite American composers," says Lisa, who grew up in New York City and watched her father, Rodney Friend, serve as concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic, conducted by Leonard Bernstein, when she was a child. She remembers watching her father and Bernstein discuss the score between rehearsals, and recalls, "I wish I could experience that era all over again. This album features American works and original arrangements that are deeply connected to her heart. The album includes "Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair" arranged by Heifetz, which her father loved to play, "Somewhere" from Bernstein's "West Side Story," "Ashokan Farewell," which is a tribute to her brother Stephen, and "Lenny Siebert," which is dedicated to her mentor Lenny Siebert. Griffith's "Poem" dedicated to his mentor, Lenny Sybert. Lisa Friend studied with Lenny Siebert of the New York Philharmonic. She then continued her studies at the Royal College of Music in England with Susan Millan and in Paris with Alain Marion. He has performed with the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, and has made numerous media appearances on Classic FM and the BBC. In addition, he has performed extensively internationally, including recitals sponsored by Steven Spielberg, Royal Family events, London's Wigmore Hall, and Seoul's LG Arts Center. Naxos Japan
