Description:

The Vanvitelli Quartet, an ensemble at the forefront of the Italian classical instrumental music scene, will present a new adventure in Handel's masterpieces, which have long been known as Handel's masterpieces. The Vanvitelli Quartet, Italy's foremost ensemble for ancient instruments, will present an ambitious new adventure to explore the "true face" of Handel's violin sonatas, which have long been known as his masterpieces, but for which the composer's true intentions have been difficult to discern due to ambiguity in the historical recordings. After studying in Italy, Handel had a successful career in the London opera world, and in addition to his operas, he wrote a lot of chamber music that could be performed by a small group of amateur players. In the 19th century, these 18th-century published scores were used as the basis for scores that could be played with piano accompaniment, and the composer's intentions were distorted and passed around, but the Vanvitelli Quartet has returned to Handel's compositional habits and has taken musical ideas from the opera "Giulio Cesare in Egypt," which overlaps the sonatas' compositional period, and inserted them into the sonatas, or even used them as a basis for the sonatas' own sonatas. The Vanvitelli Quartet has returned to Handel's compositional tradition and created a restored version of the sonatas that renews the widely known image of the work by quoting and inserting musical ideas from the opera "Giulio Cesare in Egypt" and other works that overlap with the sonatas (details are clearly indicated in the track listing). The performance is full of colorfulness and surprisingly fresh interpretations. This is a fulfilling piece that reminds us once again of the significance of tracing the composer's true intentions with ancient instruments. Naxos Japan
