Bach's unfinished masterpiece, with the exquisite sounds of the gamba ensemble. The Technique of Fugue" was written by the great Bach with all the skill of his later years, but was left unfinished when he finished writing the final piece the year before his death. Although the extant manuscript score does not specify which instrument was to be used in the performance, many researchers believe that the composer must have intended to perform the piece on the keyboard instrument, which was his specialty. During the Baroque period, it was not uncommon for pieces written for solo organ to be rearranged for viola da gamba ensembles, and here is a recording of the complete work by Phantasm, a gamba consort at the forefront of the world-renowned British ancient music scene. The compositions are composed by the talented Daniel Hyde, who plays the organ solo on several pieces, reminding us of its compatibility with the gamba ensembles of the time. LINN's renowned engineer Philip Hobbs captures the quiet swelling of the long notes and the resonance between the parts that is unique to this instrument in a very natural way, and his careful interpretation that draws out the depth of the work itself is particularly impressive.The final piece is performed in its unfinished state with no supplementary writing, and the sound stops when Bach's pen suddenly ceases amidst a unique floating sensation, leaving an indescribable aftertaste.
