Description:
Rouen-born organist, composer, and educator Marcel Dupré is one of the best-known French organists of his generation. He gave more than 2,000 concerts in Europe and the United States and was widely noted, especially for his performance of Bach's complete organ works from memory. As a composer, he left 65 works, but his non-organ works have not received much attention. This album contains Dupré's piano and chamber music. The "Violin Sonata" and "Elevation," composed as a student and dedicated to Vierne, the "Six Preludes" dedicated to Louis Diémé, professor of piano at the Paris Conservatory, and the "Three Pieces" composed for Dupré's mother, are among the works that show the influence of Fauré and Vierne. The works are influenced by Fauré and Vierne. The "Four Pieces," an arrangement for piano of incidental music for a friend's play, is also known as a dedication to Clara Haskil.
