Description:
Mouffat's masterpiece, a rich example of late Baroque music, interpreted by the virtuoso Foklur! Georg Muffat was born in the Duchy of Savoy, between France and Italy, and learned the French style of string playing in Lully's orchestra before moving to German-speaking countries. He is best known for his masterpiece "Musical Bouquets" (1695), which introduced French court music know-how to the German-speaking world, and for his efforts to reconcile European musical languages into a single aesthetic. It is an ambitious work that demonstrates this awareness in the field of keyboard music, and comprehensively presents the various organ techniques that he learned from master organists throughout Europe through 12 toccatas. Here, Bernard Foclour, a Belgian master who has thoroughly pursued German organ music before Bach, uses a French classical instrument from Versailles to reveal the multifaceted nature of the mouffat with an extremely natural sound delivery.The middle section of the program includes Mufat's only violin sonata, known from a manuscript in the Czech World Heritage Palace. Baroque violinist Marie Lukier, who has been attracting attention as a soloist in France and other countries in recent years, stretches out beautiful melodic lines in the sound of the large organ, reminding us once again of the depth of this composer's artistry.
