Gaetano Donizetti, known for his many operas such as "Lucia di Lammermoor" and "The Wonderful Medicine of Love," studied with Johann Simon Meyer when he was a student in Bologna, and was not only familiar with Italian string quartets but also with the culture of Vienna, which dominated the music world at the time. His string quartets are beautiful works, combining the Italian and Austrian traditions, filling the tight form with flowing melodies, and the recordings of Donizetti's string quartets by the "Revolutionary Drawing Room," which began to be released in 1995, are remarkable for being the undiscovered masterpieces of this famous composer. Nearly 20 years later, the Cologne Pleyel Quartet has recorded the remaining pieces, completing the complete cycle, which is now available in this boxed set. Naxos Japan
