Alfred Schnittke began working with film music in the 1960s, composing 66 pieces between 1962 and 1984. His style was not well received by the avant-garde, but was well received by film audiences and concert audiences. This sixth collection of film music includes music for the 1979 serial television drama "Little Tragedy," based on Pushkin's original story. Pushkin's original story consists of four short stories, and with the exception of the original "The Petty Knight," all of which are traditional tales - Don Juan, rumors surrounding the death of Mozart, and an episode based on the plague that broke out in London in 1665 - these works are about the relationship between man and death and are set in Western These works are set in Western Europe, and are based on the theme of man's relationship with death.
