Description:
The performance of the variations he wrote based on songs sung there, as well as two sonatas he composed in a minor key at the same time, are performed on ancient musical instruments. By the time he arrived in Paris in 1778, the piano (fortepiano) was beginning to become fashionable as a new keyboard instrument of note, and while there were probably many different types of instruments in existence, the musicians chose a model from the Zilberman workshop based in Strasbourg. The performance with a sparkling tone that is still close to that of the harpsichord sounds fresh even to ears accustomed to Mozart performances on modern pianos, and allows us to relive the surprise that must have been felt by the French in the 1770s. Arnaud Pasqual, a keyboardist who has shown outstanding talent on both harpsichord and fortepiano, and the brilliant Jerome Van Werbeek, concertmaster of the Pygmalion under Raphael Pichon, will perform together with ensemble skills that are only possible with their outstanding chamber music experience.Perrine Doviller, also a soloist on Pygmalion's masterpieces, brings out the charm of the rare songs of Albanese, a castrato singer who was widely employed at the royal chapel in Versailles at the time, and gives a rich performance that captures the atmosphere of Paris when the young composer genius visited the city.
