Description:
The war that broke out in 1756, starting with a dispute between France and Great Britain, was joined by all the European powers except the Ottoman Empire, and it appeared to be a "world war" in the making. In 1763, seven years after the outbreak of the war, the fighting had finally died down, and the Treaty of Hubertusburg was concluded to make peace. The people were finally able to breathe a sigh of relief. The historic German city of Lüneburg was also invaded by the French, but when the war ended, Johann Christoph Schmügel, then church musician in Lüneburg, composed a cantata for the celebrations held by the Elector of Braunschweig-Lüneburg.This brilliant work, first performed on January 6, 1763, was recorded for the first time more than 250 years later. Schmiegel was a pupil of Telemann, and this album also includes a piece by Telemann on the Seven Years' War. Naxos Japan
