Description:
Cantata No. 47 by Rudolf Lutz and the Bach Foundation Orchestra. No. 130, "All We Praise Thee, O Lord God," is a cantata written for the Michaelmas Eve in 1724. The text, taken from the Book of Revelation, depicts a scene in which the armies of God battle an army of demons likened to serpents and dragons. Pushed to the fore is praise to God. The opening chorus has a festive atmosphere, and trumpets and timpani play an active role in the bass aria in the third piece, coloring the heroic singing. The fifth aria with solo flute is a beautiful prayer sung to the rhythm of a light dance. The trumpet and timpani also add color to the final chorale. No. 202, "Now depart, O shadow of sorrow," is called the "Marriage Cantata. The date of its composition is unknown, but it is thought to have been composed to celebrate the wedding of Bach's acquaintance. The first piece, with soprano solo, oboe, strings, and bass, is a little bit anxious, but the rest of the cantata is joyful and tells the story of the fulfillment of love by the power of the gods and the lessons of married life.No. 77, "Love Thy Lord God," is a cantata that premiered on the 13th Sunday after Trinity in August 1723, Bach's first year as Thomas Cantor. Its theme, "Love to God and Love to Neighbor," is related to the parable of the Good Samaritan in Luke's Gospel. The opening chorus sings Jesus' exhortation to love in a choral fugue, followed by a brief bass recitative, and a soprano aria with two oboes accompaniment in which the love for Jesus is sung strongly. The theme of the fourth recitative is love for humanity. It is followed by an alto aria confessing the imperfection of his own love. In Bach's autograph, there are no lyrics to the final chorale. Here, as in the view of Bach scholar Martin Petzold (1946-2015), the lyrics of the 11th verse of the hymn "Lord, Your Commandments and Laws" written by David Denicke in 1637 are used. Naxos Japan
