Composer and keyboardist Gerald Hendry, born in England in 1935, studied piano from the age of six, became an organist and musicologist, and moved to France in 1996 to continue his compositional activities. His organ works reveal a wide range of influences, from Franck, Dupré, and Messiaen to jazz and medieval melodies. This second collection includes lyrical and lively works such as the "Six Concert Exercises" with their various techniques. The sonata "In Praise of Reconciliation" is a prayer for peace, using melodies that symbolize Coventry and Dresden, which were bombed during World War II. The performance is by Tom Wimpenny, whose series of recordings for the NAXOS label have been highly acclaimed.
