Description:
The superb sound again! The beautiful sounds of the historical harpsichord from Belgium, the country of ancient music, trace back to the 18th century] In Antwerpen, Belgium, an ancient city with a rich historical heritage, the Ramee label has released a rich sequel to "Grand Tour" ( RAM2009), which traces 18th-century keyboard works from around the world using a rare original 18th-century single-stage harpsichord from the same city. While the previous release shed light on the differences in traditions in different parts of Europe, this time the program explores how the French and Italian styles, the two major trends of the time in the middle of the 18th century on the eve of the Classical movement, permeated the local fashion while touring three major cities: Brussels, Hamburg, Berlin, and Paris. The title of the program is no wonder, as the French word "ensuite" for "continuation" is superimposed on the expression "in the French style" or "and the suite" or "and the suite". The Brussels-born composer of Italian descent, Fiocco, has an appealing style that flexibly incorporates the Italian style into a collection of keyboard pieces bearing French titles. The works by Bach's second son and Benda's younger brother are beautifully crafted with a Germanized version of the Italian sonata and Rococo sentimentality, contrasting favorably with the keyboard works of Geminiani's later period, when he indulged the popularity of Italian music in London and then explored the French style for Paris. The music of Dufry, who was active in Paris at the time when the Italian style had completely penetrated the city, is a series of compositions that best reflect the flavor of the 18th century harpsichord. In Geminiani, Dufry, and others, the music is selected from a collection of French-style pieces and structured as movements of an Italian-style sonata. The experienced virtuoso Bernoletto's free and flexible touch, which brings out the best of each piece, shows the full potential of the harpsichord, an instrument with only one keyboard step that can express an astonishing variety of styles. Enjoy the raw 18th century European sound world with precise and natural engineering by Rainer Arndt, a former baroque violinist and engineer. Naxos Japan
