Reinout van Mechelen, A Nocte Temporis

Description:

The only recording of the entire opera by a brilliant female composer of the same generation as Couperin is now available! In 1695, Jaquet de la Guerre, a female composer of the same generation as the great Couperin and a favorite of the French royal family from early on, performed the opera "Cephal and Procris" at the Paris Opera House. This is a masterpiece that until now has only been partially recorded, but now a long-awaited recording of the entire work is finally available. Reinhard van Megeren, himself a singer who has contributed greatly to the revival of baroque opera, plays the leading role of Cephalus while conducting his own company, A Nocte Tempolis. The tragic love story of a young man and woman who both lose their lives due to an unfortunate misunderstanding is similar to the plot of "Romeo and Juliet," and the story, including the opening act by the mythological characters, is a poetic and thrilling series of developments. The first performance was not a success, perhaps due to its unpopularity, and it was pulled from the stage after only a few days. The recording is so full of life that it is hard to believe the misfortune of this recording, which brings out the full richness of the work's ups and downs. The orchestra, which supports the singers' elaborate reading of the libretto, includes such soloists as Anna Besson on traverso, Benoit Laurent on oboe, and Jean-François Madouffe on trumpet, and their performance enlivens the flow of the songs. The performance is full of flavorful music that enlivens the flow of the songs. Naxos Japan
