One of Slatkin and the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra's groundbreaking achievements, Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 3 and other works from his complete orchestral works are back in a 24bit/192kHz remastered "VOX AUDIOPHILE EDITION". The previously released Symphony No. 2 & Vocalise was compared to the previously released version in "Stereo" magazine, with the following comments: "The most noticeable difference is the three-dimensionality of the orchestra. The front, rear, left, and right expanses and distances are accurate, and the depth of the stage is deepened. The sound of instruments like the glockenspiel, which is easily buried by other instruments in the tutti, can be heard clearly. This conveys the ingenuity of Rachmaninoff, who was well versed in orchestral performance effects, and the power to draw you into the performance is instantly enhanced.Slatkin re-recorded No. 3 with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in 2011, and the playing time of all three movements is almost the same, suggesting that the interpretation had reached a mature stage of development by the time of this recording. When the recording was first released, "Record Geijutsu" wrote, "The orchestra develops in a spacious sound field. The depth and resolution are high, and yet the whole is well integrated. The sound is supple and lustrous, the localization of the parts is clear, and no distortion or muddiness appears" (Shohachiro Aizawa's review of the recording). The remastering has preserved the analog taste of the original recording, and the listener can enjoy the charms of the refreshed recording. Naxos Japan
