Description:
Hugo Distler was a composer active in Germany in the first half of the 20th century. He wrote several religious pieces and joined the National Socialist Workers' Party in 1933, but gradually became mentally ill and took his own life at the young age of 34. This "A Christmas Story" is a pious piece in the early Baroque style, reminiscent of Schütz's work. The story of the birth of Christ, unraveled by the reading by the evangelist and the beautiful chorus, is clearly captured in the high quality recording of which the label is proud. Naxos Japan
