Description:
Listening to Lewis Kaufman, who left more than 500 recordings, in the Romantic repertoire】Few people in Japan may know the name Lewis Kaufman, but many must have heard his performances. This is because, in addition to numerous classical music records, Kaufman has participated in the soundtracks of films such as "Gone with the Wind," "Arashi no Oka," "Casablanca," "Pinocchio," "Rebecca," "The Diary of Anne Frank," and "The Sound of Music. According to his biography, the sound for the scene where Pinocchio is swallowed by the whale was created by Kaufman's glissando on the E line, and the "Tara's Theme" from "Gone with the Wind" was created with the composer in front of the director. On this album, we hear works from the German Romantic period, a rarity for Kaufmann. Louis Kaufmann was born on May 10, 1905 in Portland, Oregon, USA. He studied in New York (now The Juilliard School) and after graduation played as a soloist and viola player in Sasha Jacobsen's Music Art string quartet before moving to Los Angeles.A Hollywood movie director who heard him play on the radio immediately recruited him for the soundtrack of his new movie, and this led to many years as concertmaster, primarily at MGM and Warner Bros. studios. It is estimated that Kaufman has worked on soundtracks for as many as 400 or 500 films. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, Kaufman recorded a total of 24 recordings of Vivaldi's Op. 8 and 9. In 1953, he released an album of Telemann's works alone, an unprecedented achievement for the time. In 1953, he released an album of Telemann's works alone, which was unusual at the time. He also recorded a series of works by contemporaries such as Copland, Barber, Britten, Vaughan Williams, Martineau, and Ernst Thoj. He was also one of the first to produce an album of William Grant Still's works, which are now being reevaluated.Kaufmann was friends with such great musicians as Casals, Gershwin, Kreisler, and Heifetz. In addition to Wayne Kiley's four-page commentary on the biographies of the three pianists, the back cover features a portrait of Kaufmann painted by artist Milton Avery in 1927, and the back cover features a portrait of Kaufmann painted by artist Milton Avery in 1927, The back cover features a color portrait of Kaufmann painted by artist Milton Avery in 1927.
