The world premiere recording of the opera "Iphigenia in Aulis" is now available on the cpo label, which is dedicated to recordings of his works. The opera is based on one of Graun's most acclaimed Italian-language operas, the Greek tragedy of the sacrifice of Iphigenia to Artemis by Agamemnon, the general of the Greek army. The score was performed in Hamburg in 1731, but was lost and never performed again, but has been revived by Barockwerk Hamburg and Ila Hochman, who are working on a work related to Hamburg. Although the score for the recitative and three choruses were lost, the overture and 35 arias have been reconstructed from the remaining material, and the excellent singers provide a rich musical experience.
