Tomáš Netopil was born in the Czech Republic in 1975 and studied conducting with Jorma Panula at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Stockholm. He won the first prize at the first Georg Solti Conducting Competition in 2002, and after serving as Music Director of the Prague National Theater, he has been Music Director of the Essen Philharmonic Orchestra and the Aalto Opera since 2013/2014. Since 2013/2014, he has been Music Director of the Essen Philharmonic Orchestra and the Aalto Opera House. Netopil strongly identifies with Mahler's music, which has a deep relationship with the Czech Republic. This time he recorded No. 3, which requires a huge orchestra, female and children's chorus, and alto solo voice. The recording includes the long first movement led by the ensemble playing of eight horns at the beginning, the third and fifth movements with quotations from Mahler's beloved "The Wonderful Horns of a Child," and the beautiful fourth movement with the alto solo using Nietzsche's "Zarathustra Speaks," among many others.
