He has played four hands with Gershwin. He specialized in Romantic music and his recordings of Chopin were very popular. A gifted writer, he wrote critical biographies of Skotkovsky and Clyburn, and had a radio program in which he invited famous performers to talk with him, helping to make classical music accessible to the public. As a composer, "Flirtation in a Chinese Garden" and "Parade" (both orchestral versions by Chasins himself) became the first American works to be premiered and conducted by Toscanini, and "Three Chinese Pieces," which he wrote "without going to Asia," were performed by Hoffman and The "Three Chinese Pieces," which he wrote "without going to Asia," became a hit, with Hoffman and Levine often playing it as an encore. His works are popular among virtuoso pianists, and have been performed by Cherkassky and Katsaris.
