Moszkowski was a Polish pianist and composer. He studied piano with Eduard Frank and composition with Friedrich Kiel in Berlin, and achieved his first success as a pianist in 1873. Moszkowski was a pianist and a teacher. Although Moszkowski composed a vast number of piano pieces during his lifetime, only a few of them, such as "Etincelles Sparks," which was a favorite of the famous pianist Horowitz, are still performed today. Therefore, master pianist Ian Hobson began recording the complete works of Moszkowski in order to introduce the full scope and true value of his piano works. He strives to prove what Paderewski later said, "After Chopin, Moszkowski has the best understanding of how to write piano music, and his works cover the full range of piano technique. This second collection follows the previous one, presenting his early works.All but three of the pieces are world premiere recordings. Op. 15 and 17 are charming salon-style pieces reminiscent of Mendelssohn and Schumann, while Op. 17, "Three Piano Pieces in Dance Form," is a brilliant Franz Liszt-esque work with technical virtuosity and skillful composition.
