Description:
Composer Charles Roland Berry was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1957. He studied composition at the University of California with Peter Racine Flicker and then with Paul Creston. Attracted by Freemasonry and holding the rank of Master Mason (he says that Mozart and Sibelius were as well), Berry combines the philosophical and mystical ideas derived from Freemasonry with practical ideas, and his theory is that new classical music should be "music that is fun to listen to and fun to play. The three works included in this collection are written by American composers. The three works included here have a rustic yet grandiose film music sound, evoking the term "big country" for Americans. The overture "Olympic Mountain" evokes the image of Olympic National Park in Washington State. Symphony No. 4" is a mystical interpretation of the number five, while "Symphony No. 5," a work from 2021, begins with anxious music and a middle section featuring wind and percussion instruments, culminating in a world where everyone is guided by a horn that mimics a wise man in harmony.The two symphonies will be conducted by Theodoret Kuchar.
