The French group Canticum Novem, based on a method of ancient music based on thorough research of historical documents, skillfully weaves together instruments and techniques of traditional music from the East and West, and reframes European music without preconceptions, taking in every corner of the periphery of the region. The group Canticum Novum is a French group that reframes European music without preconceptions, while skillfully incorporating traditional instruments and techniques from East and West. This time, the stage is set in Aleppo, Syria, one of the oldest cities in the world that has survived until the 21st century. The program includes music from various periods, from ancient times through the Byzantine period to the Renaissance period, when the city came under the rule of the Ottoman Empire. Songs in various languages such as Greek, Ladino, Arabic, Turkish, Armenian, and Kurdish continue to evoke the scent of "earth" and the certainty of tradition. The songs are like old European music, but the sound of the instruments is Middle Eastern, and conversely, Middle Eastern-style tunes are played on old Western instruments.
