Influenced by Franck, Fauré, Debussy, and others, but expanding traditional harmony and compositional techniques in his own unique way, and sometimes writing atonal works, the French composer Quéchran left behind more than 200 works. Although not frequently performed or recorded, his works, including "The Jungle Book" and piano pieces, are persistently popular. He is said to have spent many nights gazing through a telescope at the stars, trying to unravel the mysteries of the universe, and at other times he was an avid reader of mythology, travel books, and books about unknown lands. Although titled "Symphony," it is a free-form suite of songs about Kecklan's favorite Hollywood stars. Although titled a symphony, it takes the form of a free-form suite. The music is modern and full of strange sounds, sometimes even featuring an ondes martenot, as it expresses the image that Keklan had of each of his stars. French conductor Ariane Matiak was born to opera singer parents and learned to play the piano at an early age.He later studied conducting in Vienna under the tutelage of Leopold Hager and Seiji Ozawa, and at the same time sang as a member of the Arnold Schoenberg Choir under Arnoncourt's direction.
