Description:
A number of important lute suites by Froberger's contemporaries, along with virtuoso virtuosity, were composed in the mid-17th century, when the lute, a repellent string instrument, still held its position as the noblest instrument for royalty, nobility, and intellectuals. Born in the Schlesien region (now part of Poland), which was then the domain of the Habsburgs, Leusner traveled extensively and built a reputation as a musician. Like his contemporary Froberger, he clearly incorporated the rhythms of French-style dances into his works, while at the same time maintaining the depth of German music, and his works are full of flavor and depth. William Carter, a Florida native who has been active in the field of English classical music, has focused his attention on Leusner's first collection, "Lute Fun" (1667), which he says he is particularly attracted to.
