Description:
On this album you will hear works by two British composers. The first composer is Nicholas Barton, born in Norfolk in 1950, and the second is Christopher Wright, born in Suffolk in 1954. They are close friends, and although their styles differ, they both write tonal works. They have been in contact since their college days and until recently, they had a joint recording project that was once put on hold due to a new coronary pandemic, but finally came to fruition with this album in October 2021. Burton's "Accord = Harmony" was written for the Banbury Symphony Orchestra in 2018. It is about exploring the possibilities of harmonic expansion and the end result is a lyrical and serene piece. Wright's "Horn Concerto" combines the acrobatic parts of the horns with the beautiful hymn-like melodies of the strings. The "Symphony" is a challenging work that combines the intensity and silence of Mahler's symphonies. The music is a throwback to the late Romantic period, representing the era known as "postmodern.
