Description:
Two of George Crumb's most famous works, recorded live in a tense live performance! In addition to various special techniques such as playing the instruments upside down, the quartet uses everything a quartet of four players can do, including the use of maracas, shouting, whispering, and clicking tongues. The ominous numbers 13 and 7 are key elements, and a count in Japanese is also inserted. The Hanson Quartet, which was formed in 2013, gives a wonderful performance of this difficult piece that is said to have been overshadowed by the Vietnam War, which was raging at the time of its composition, by combining their advanced technique with the tension that only a live performance can bring. The third piece "Music for a Summer Night" from "Macrocosmos," another of Crumb's masterpieces, is written for two pianos and percussion through an amplifier, and is said to have been inspired by Bartók's work.The performance is dense with the addition of Philippe Atta, a specialist in contemporary music, and Theo Hushnure, an experienced virtuoso, as well as two members of the percussion ensemble Trio Xenakis.
