For a performer, the concert is everything, but it is the rehearsals that create the performance that reveal the conductor's interpretation and ability to lead the orchestra. In this four-disc set, the vast amount of rehearsal recordings of Mariss Jansons and the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks (Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks), including rehearsals of Slavic music with which Jansons is closely associated, allows the listener to witness the music making process. The recording traces the relationship between conductor and orchestra from "Petrushka" in 2001, when Jansons was appointed chief conductor of the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, to "Pathetique" in 2004, "Leningrad" in 2016, and "Symphonic Dances" in 2017, and we can sense the maturation of the relationship between the conductor and the orchestra. The rehearsals were conducted in German. Rehearsals are in German. The introduction by Friedrich Schroffel, commentator for the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation, is included in German at the beginning of each CD. Naxos Japan
