Description:

Maria Bach (Emilie Maria Baroness von Bach) is an Austrian pianist and composer. Her father, Robert, was a lawyer with a penchant for the violin, and her mother, Eleanor, was an accomplished singer who had performed under Mahler and Brahms. She studied composition under Joseph Marx and made her debut as a composer in 1921. During this period, she became acquainted with Russian conductor and composer Ivan Bounicoff, who taught her conducting and orchestral techniques, and with whom she developed a good relationship that included concert tours throughout Europe. In the 1930s, she became a successful composer, receiving excellent reviews in the newspapers of the time. The Viennese publisher Doblinger showed interest in her work and published her piano quintet "Volga. This album contains three of her most famous works. All of the works are very rewarding to listen to, with the piano part with its astonishing virtuosity and the rich tone of the strings. In 1943, critic and composer Fritz Skorzeny wrote in a Viennese newspaper that "Maria Bach's works combine various elements of exoticism, charming melody, and poetic inspiration," which accurately This is an apt description of the charm her music creates.
