Description:
Mischa Spoliansky was born into a musical family: his father was an opera singer, his sister a pianist, and his brother a cellist. He moved from Russia to Warsaw and Vienna as a child and received his musical education mainly in Dresden, but moved to Berlin due to the outbreak of World War I in 1914. Here he began composing while working as a pianist in a café. He eventually became popular as a composer of cabaret music in Berlin in the 1920s, and as a pianist he was active in all aspects of his work, including accompanying the famous tenor Richard Tauber in his "Winterreise" (Winter Journey). He was of Jewish descent. Spoliansky began his career as a film musician here, and he was highly sought after by Hitchcock and other major directors, achieving great success with many of his films. Spoliansky also left orchestral works, but these were rarely performed.The album took about 30 years to complete and includes three pieces: the "Symphony," which depicts Spoliansky's thoughts on the Holocaust, the orchestral jazz "Boogie," and the lilting "My Husband and I" overture, which is reminiscent of Mozart.
