Description:
From one of the oldest playable lutes in existence to the end of the Middle Ages, through the Renaissance, and into the 17th century, the lute, a stringed instrument that is relatively easy to carry and yet capable of delicate and elaborate polyphonic music, has been loved as the perfect accompaniment for singing. In its heyday, the lute was the instrument of choice for the intellectuals, and was revered alongside the organ, for which it was the subject of numerous musical scores. It gradually fell out of favor due to changes in lifestyle and the popularity of the harpsichord, piano, and violin, but it is perhaps precisely because the lute has disappeared from the stage of history that many people are drawn to its mysterious sound, feeling a hint of "somewhere other than here. RAMEE, which excels at recording ancient musical instruments, has released an album that strongly stirs a longing for the past, which is unique to the lute. The Polish virtuoso Michał Gontko, who has already recorded many masterpieces on this label with his partner Corina Marti, takes an original instrument with the date of 1595, which is said to be one of the oldest playable lutes in existence (it has been suggested that it may have been repaired rather than manufactured), The exhibition will feature works from various parts of Europe that exude an unforgettable charm. The program will feature works from around the year 1595 on this rare instrument, which has had the neck and head replaced but the body is still in its original state, and will include a selection of manuscripts and published scores from various regions across the Mediterranean and North Sea, from Poland in the east to Denmark, Belgium, Germany, Italy, and the UK in the west. The program is a well-balanced tour of Europe through sound. The beautiful sound grains, which are derived from instruments more than 400 years old, are elegant and graceful, yet have a powerful presence, weaving a rare sound that begs to be listened to carefully, as if appreciating the brevity of each track. The sound is so beautiful that you will want to listen to it carefully and appreciate the shortness of each track. The sound of this famous instrument from the same period as many Renaissance masterpieces is highly recommended even for those who have not listened to lute music much before. Naxos Japan
