Macmillan's beautiful collection of religious choral works by Scottish composer James Macmillan, mostly biblical in subject matter. We are pleased to note that most are first-time recordings, beginning with a group of serene and tense a capella motets composed for the chapel dedication ceremony at Christ the Savior Church, Culham, in 2015, and varying from works with organ accompaniment, to works for organ and solo voice, to organ solo pieces, and more. Some of these pieces were written for the weddings of MacMillan's children, and others are memorials to his father. Capella Nova is the only professional choir in Scotland to specialize in ancient and contemporary music, founded in 1982 by Alan and Rebecca Tavener. The beautiful acoustics of Edinburgh's historic and famous churches can be felt in abundance on this album, expertly engineered by Linn Records Chief Producer, Philip Hobbs. Naxos Japan
