Not only was this momentum alive and well in the Revolutionary era of the 17th century, but new music from France and Italy was also brought to the highly developed English-language theater stage. Because there are few examples of music by specific composers in printed form, the field tends to be difficult to restore and is buried in obscurity, but the English incidental music of the 17th century is also attractive to modern instrumentalists. The Theatre of Music, based in Sèvres, will present a vivid sound depiction of the theatrical world of 17th century English, which was much closer to French than English is today, with an ensemble of French speakers, including Jeanne Zepfel, a leading singer in the troupe, who will show a unique affinity with the performance.
