Description:
The duo Yatecock has received much acclaim in France for their popular piano duo and narrator's at-home "Carnival of the Animals" and their performances of sharp-edged Poulenc contemporary music. Their name means "play" in Hungarian, and Kurtag wrote the piano piece of the same name. The girls and Alex Vizorek, a popular Radio France personality, have teamed up to present "Carnival of the Animals. Vizorek himself has written a new text for the piece, and the intimacy of the performance is very pleasing. The Duo Yatecock's "off-the-cuff" performance of "The Pianist" is also a real treat. In Poulenc's concerto, recorded at the same time, the girls show off their sharpness and enjoy the slow movement with its exquisite balance of lyricism and coolness. Before the "Dance of Death," Vizorek's reading of the poem by Henri Casalis, on which the work is based, is also included. This release commemorates the 100th anniversary of Saint-Saens' death.
